Would You Volunteer As Tribute
Mar 25, 2013
In 2012, The Hunger Games swept across movie theatre screens like wild fire. Based on the science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins, the story follows heroine Katniss Everdeen in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem. The story shows her progressive journey through the gruesome Hunger Games, in which one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle to the death.
Today local Fort St. John teens will participate in the 2nd Annual Fort St. John Hunger Games, hosted by the FSJ Public Library.
While no one is scheduled to perish at the Cultural Centre on Wednesday evening, there will be Hunger Games-styled battles. This modern-day version of tag is meant to engage youth in some healthy outdoor competition, and has been one of the library’s most successful events.
Unlike the tributes in the novel, FSJ teens will also be treated to pizza and prizes from local establishments. Parents are also encouraged to participate as game makers, changing the parameters of the game to keep players at a constant state of readiness, as in the book.
