Whether it be the latest high-pace action thriller, a compelling drama or a thigh-slapping, laugh-out-loud comedy, visiting the cinema is a truly unparalleled form of escapism. Therefore, film aficionados will be thrilled to hear that the Reels Shorts Film Festival is on now!

From May 7 – 11, the Grande Prairie Live Theatre and Jan Cinema is showcasing some of the best short films from around the globe as part of the Reel Shorts Film Festival. Moviegoers will have a chance to discover some real hidden gems from around the world. With films from over 28 countries in languages such as Norwegian, Arabic, French and German, you certainly won’t be stuck for great movies.

Marking its 7th consecutive year, this year’s itinerary is the most stacked to date. With a line-up structured around a hundred short films, there is literally something for everyone.

Adrenaline junkies will be excited to hear that Horacio Galanti, mountain climbing extraordinaire and Peace Country resident, will available following a showing of Antartica: A Year on Ice in order to field questions regarding his recent expeditions filming wolves in the wild. Promising to share some great stories and snaps from his summits of the world’s highest peaks, this is not to be missed. If horror movies are your forte, then you’ll be glad to hear that highly acclaimed gore-fest Jack Attack will be showing. Winner of the Audience Award for Best Short Picture at the 2013 Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, “Jack Attack” should be a must-see for all festival goers.
If you’re not entirely sure what it is you want to see, but are generally interested in the festival itself, then consider taking in one of the great film packages offered. This is a handy way to sample a range of short films related to a genre of your liking. Check out 2014 Best of the Fest, a package which shows award winners across a range of categories – the best way to see some of the most successful short films of the year!
