Wembley Unlocks Life’s Mysteries!
Sep 4, 2014
Life is full of mysteries. What is the meaning of life? Why do people always slow down to gawk at car accidents? Who would win in a fight: a Ford or a Chevy? If it's answers you seek, you might just find them this weekend at Wembley’s Rockin’ Smashin’ Weekend, as car after car after car smashes into each other right before your eyes.
That’s right, this August 6 is Wembley’s Rockin’ Smashin’ Weekend, and that means Family Fun, Rock ‘n’ Roll, and, of course, the Wembley Demolition Derby.
The fun kicks off at 11am on Saturday with a parade. The crashers and smashers will be starting their engines at noon, and will go until 6 pm (or until no one can move). There are three categories: Full Size, Trucks, and Minis. On top of the fantastic car-on-car carnage, there will be a Show and Shine, food vendors and a beer garden. Later at the Wembley Rec Plex everyone will be rocking out with The Privateers and Walking Blind both locally grown in Grande Prairie. Doors open at 5 pm and the show starts at 7 pm. Then... at midnight - fireworks!
Tickets for the Derby are $15 at the gate for adults and $10 for kids (3-12), and tickets for the concert are $15 at the door. Derby admission also gets you access to all the kids’ activities, which include air brush tattoos, glitter tattoos, face painting, bouncy castles, laser tag and Hip Flick Hoops. The best part is it’s in Wembley, just a quick 20km from Grande Prairie, so you can stay in town and pop out for all the fun on Saturday.
This weekend, don’t slow down to gawk at car accidents. Come to Wembley, where the car accidents have front row seats (and beer), and find the answers to life’s most pressing mysteries. Mysteries like, “Can you really fit a roll cage into a 1993 Geo Metro?”* and, “ What would it look like if a beat up old pickup were hit from three different directions by three different trucks all at the same time?” If these are the kinds of questions you ponder, then the Rockin' Smashin' Weekend has the answers you're looking for.
