Country & Christmas
Dec 4, 2014
It’s Christmas time in the Peace Country and if you’ve got “A Cowboy’s Heart”, you know what that means. It’s time for Canadian Country Christmas!
This weekend Peace River plays host to the eighth annual Canadian Country Christmas at the BP Centre. If you had a chance to catch the show earlier this week in Fort St. John, you know the lineup this year is so hot it will take the chill out of any winter night.
Host Sean Hogan, along with guests Shane Chisholm, Darlene Tuleta, Jamie Warren, Duane Steele, and Marshall Dane are going to be “Kickin’ up Dust” and proving that “Nothin’ Could be Better” than country music and Christmas!
Sean started the cross-Canada Country Christmas tour in 2004 to raise money for local charities such as local food banks as well as those less fortunate abroad. “I keep doing this because it is a lot of fun, even though it can be dicey and challenging”, says Hogan. Every year so far has been an enormous success. Over $120,000 was raised in the first eight years* and approximately $10,000 is raised each year in Peace River alone.**
This year’s lineup includes some of last year’s favourites as well as a few newcomers. Shane Chisholm, from Claresholm, AB is returning again this year to perform. He holds the accolade of being the first ever to win the Alberta Country Music Association Male Artist of the Year award. We are also pleased to see one of our own come back - none other than, Duane Steele. Born in Hines Creek, Duane has been making music and entertaining crowds since the mid-eighties. New to the line-up but not necessarily new to Canadian country music is Jamie Warren. Other newcomers adding a country-rock flavour to the mix are Darlene Tuleta and Marshall Dane.
At the time of this post, there are only some tickets still available for Friday’s show. These may be purchased at the door. However it is sure to sell out, so you are going to want to arrive early or check by calling the box office at 780-624-8318.
