Taking Gold in Taylor
Aug 1, 2012
It will be a golden weekend in Taylor, B.C in celebration of the 40th Annual Gold Panning Competition.
On the competition front, there are three different categories. Class "A", designated for certified professionals, Class "B" for non-professionals and Class "C" for Adult/Juvenile.
The invitational competitors in Class A are judged on speed, skills panning, and fine gold panning. When competitors are not panning for gold, they can try their hand at metal detecting and claimstaking.
On the family front there will be a variety of activities, including a cherry spitting contest and a root beer chugging contest, along with horseshoes, a petting zoo, and bannock baking.
Coming back this year for the Class “A” invitational will be Scott Rea, from Quesnel. Rea was the 2011 champion and has won the division the past three years in a row.
Since 1972, this event has brought the District of Taylor community members together; as well as gold panners from around the world.
