Bring on the Corn Coma
Aug 10, 2012
Today, August 10th, the GP Corn Maze opens for the season. Many Peace Region families will flock through the almost-edible maze that is constructed every year at the Country Roads RV Park.
The corn maze is an annual event that many look forward to every year and commemorates the Peace Country’s transition into fall.
The corn maze is on its 7th year is owned and operated by the Halwa Family. Originally, the maze was only constructed as a bonus feature for the RV Park, but over the years has taken on a life of its own, drawing thousands every year.
Stretching over 8 acres of land, the maze can take up to a week to cut depending on the design; this year is both Big Country 93.1 and the Grande Prairie Storm.
The average maze traveler spends about an hour or two to navigate through the more than two miles of twists and turns; built into two sections, crop enthusiasts can do the whole thing or pop out for a break.
This year maze creator Jason Halwa gives the difficulty level a solid 8 in agri-tainment and is expecting record crowds once again. Creating different designs and adding new activities yearly, the Halwas strive to create something different and fun for all ages in the Peace.
Once you are done the maze, you can visit the corner store and indulge in some old-fashioned hard ice cream, try your hand at a duck race or take a ride on the cow train.
Every year the GP Corn Maze is a must see and an a-maze-ing way to spend an afternoon.
