Rumble at the Speedway

Aug 9, 2012

Rockabilly Hotrod Rumble Grande Prairie There is going to be a Rockabilly Hot Rod Rumble down at the Speedway this Saturday, August 11, and if you are not a square you will be there.

The Hythe Motor Speedway and ProvoCouture Studios are collaborating once again to bring to the Peace the 2nd Annual Rockabilly Hot Rod Rumble.

Just what is Rockabilly? A retro rock and roll revolution that is most famously portrayed in the cult classic movie “Cry Baby”. Rockabilly is an underground culture that has started to seep back into modern trends with fashion and music.

We Go North had the opportunity to sit down with Ashley Lett, ProvoCouture owner and organizer of the fashion show.

“Rockabilly is so cool, I love the movie Cry Baby, and I just think that [the Peace Region] doesn’t have enough knowledge to know what to think of this culture.”

“My Uncle Ken (Hythe Motor Speedway) and I have always wanted to work together but for so long I was in Toronto; now I am here and we are trying to grow this event to be bigger and better each year.”

Doors open at 11am and 20 Washingtons - or dollars - will get you in to see local band Six Inch Lift, Dawson Creek-based rockers Dodge City Rockets, Races, and of course a rockabilly fashion show.

This event is ProvoCouture’s standing yearly fashion show and if you want to blend in with all the dolls most pieces of the ProvoCouture collection will be available for purchase.

There will also be numerous other vendors on site from a tattoo competition, rat rods, fire performers, splatterball, modeling and more.

This is unquestionably the most unique event of the summer and you do not want to miss it, Daddy-O!
